Cannabis club words, explained
25 — The terms you will meet when you look into a cannabis social club in Fuengirola or anywhere along the Costa del Sol — in plain language, with links to the part of the club they relate to.
Clubs and membership
The vocabulary you will see on club websites, sign-up forms and in conversations with members around Fuengirola and Málaga.
- Asociación
- The Spanish word for association. Most clubs on the coast are set up as non-profit associations, which is why you join rather than simply buy.
- Socio / socia
- A member. Once your application is accepted you are a socio, and the club's space and events are open to you rather than to the general public.Start a membership application →
- Referral / invitation
- Being introduced by an existing member. Many clubs ask who referred you because associations are built on people vouching for each other.
- Private members lounge
- The indoor space reserved for members: seating, music, drinks and conversation, closed to the public.See the space →
- ID verification
- The identity check every serious club runs before accepting a member. Expect to show a passport, DNI or NIE and confirm your date of birth.What the form asks for →
- 21+ policy
- This club only accepts members aged 21 or over, which is stricter than the usual adult threshold.
Strain types
The three words that describe the character of a cannabis variety. Every category on the weekly menu is filtered by them.
- Indica
- Varieties usually described as heavier and more relaxing, which is why members often associate them with a quiet evening rather than a busy day.Filter this week's list by indica →
- Sativa

- Hybrid
- A cross between indica and sativa genetics, balancing the character of both. Most modern varieties are hybrids of some kind.Filter this week's list by hybrid →
- Phenotype
- The particular expression of a variety grown from seed. Two plants of the same name can look and smell noticeably different.
- Landrace
- An old regional variety that developed in one place over generations, rather than being bred in a modern grow room.
Forms and formats
What the categories on the weekly menu actually mean, in ordinary language.
- Flower
- The dried buds of the plant, the format most people picture first. The weekly list keeps an even spread of indica, sativa and hybrid.This week's flower →
- Hash
- Pressed resin, made in traditional ways such as dry-sift and hand-rubbing or with modern washing techniques.This week's hash →
- Edible
- Something eaten rather than inhaled, such as a jelly. Effects arrive slowly and last longer, so members are advised to start small and wait.
- Vape pen
- A small device that heats an extract into vapour instead of burning plant material. Quieter and less smoky than a joint.
- Oil
- A liquid extract, usually measured by drops, chosen by members who prefer not to inhale anything at all.
- Terpenes
- The aromatic compounds behind a variety's smell: citrus, pine, fuel, pepper. Much of what people describe as the character of a strain is terpenes.
- THC and CBD
- The two best-known cannabinoids. THC is the one associated with feeling high; CBD is not intoxicating and is often described as steadying.
- Curing
- The slow drying and storage stage after harvest. A good cure is the difference between harsh and smooth, and it is what club members notice first.

- Costa del Sol

- Cercanías C-1

- Los Boliches

- Las Lagunas / Mijas Costa

- NIE
- The foreigner identification number issued in Spain. A passport works for membership here, but the NIE is what long-term residents usually carry.
